| Abstract | The objective of this study is to establish relationships between high resolution spectral signatures of water features and measured limnological variables in the Paraibuna Reservoir, State of São Paulo, Brazil. A selected portion near the dams of this 224 sq. km reservoir formed by two rivers, Paraibuna and Paraitinga, was studied. Spectral analysis results indicate that suspended solids occurred in relatively lower concentrations and green algae occurred dispersed through the water column when compared to published reference spectral response curves. However, a clear absorption feature centered at 628 nm suggests the presence of cyanobacteria during the sample period based on published results. The distribution of cyanobacteria in the western portion of the study area was determined based on the locations and spectral patterns of sampled points. Future research is needed in order to answer some key questions proposed by this research. | |||
